Today I wanted to show Uwe our local mountain and a couple of chic trails before and after. Well, the weather forecast was not really ideal, we set off anyway. 😉 Everything went as planned up to the Riechheimer Hügel. After that we had to improvise a little. The roads were bumpy and softened and muddy by the rain. The way back then led over an old cart path, the museum village and a few Steigertrails. 😃

Last day 😭 and so that saying goodbye to South Tyrol is really not easy, there was a round to enjoy today. I have been to Kaltern several times on vacation and also to the Montiggler Lakes. That there are also very nice trails there was added as an experience today. They are usually not very long, but quickly lead back to the main hiking trails. But the ground is easy to grip, and with roots, stones and rock steps, fun is not neglected. Lunch break at the kiosk on the lake (good and inexpensive) and then cappuccino and ice cream break in Kaltern (very tasty). Then it went back through Eppan with a last trail mark "Speed" down on the road back to Nals. And that was it.

Today we went with the big cable car from Burgstall up to Verano (866 Hm so please subtract from the daily statistics) and then there on hiking trails over two alpine inns (cappuccino break and lunch) to the all-round free-standing viewpoint Stoanerne Mandlen. We were very lucky with the weather, even at the top just a mild breeze and very pleasant temperatures. Again and again with acrobatic overcoming of the pasture barriers, which worked great in the team. The last 100 m was actually a carrying passage - or for me (owner of a heavy bike, which was not an advantage here) a very arduous pushing distance on still very muddy ground. Is everything mobile? Well But the view above compensates for this drudgery with a fantastic panoramic view with a perfect view of almost everything that the mountains in South Tyrol has to offer in terms of peaks and massifs (I'll save the list here, the mountains are all so striking )

Today we took the cable car from Lana up to 1486m and from there on the varied paths and trails around the Vigiljoch. Again and again, fantastic views of the surrounding Alpine peaks open up, which are covered with snow after the rain on the weekend. Boredom is a foreign word these days, the route guidance is so varied. Sometimes root trail, sometimes forest path, the newly built upper part of the quarry flow trail, steep descents then towards the end. The Kaiserschmarrn in the Seespitz restaurant was very tasty. The reduction in altitude afterwards sometimes seemed like a low flight over Meran / Lana. The weather was perfect and even had a few ❄ out of the blue as a little curiosity at lunchtime. That's how we love South Tyrol.

Today we went up to the St. Hippolyt chapel above the village of Lana. From there there is an impressive panorama of the Adige Valley. As expected, the trails were still soaking wet, which occasionally dampened the fun a bit. Finally there was a local specialty: chestnut chocolate hearts. This type of sweet chestnut only grows at Lana, and it is harvested regularly in autumn and these chocolate-covered hearts are made from it. Tastes sweet.

While autumn is slowly arriving north of the main Alpine ridge with uncomfortable weather, you can end the MTB season in a relaxed atmosphere with pleasant temperatures in South Tyrol. 😉 At least that was the plan. It had rained yesterday and the trails were wet. And today it ... Not just rained. In between even ☀. But still, there were water crossings and streams that wanted to use the path. In the morning there was a refresher on driving technique, and of course we wanted to put that into practice right away. The trails on the Vorbichel are ideal for this, beautifully stony, rooty and sometimes steep. Makes us want to spend the next few days here. 🚵🏞
