Bikepacking Mull, Iona, Ardnamurchan (FULL)

This took me just over 6 days to ride - starting and finishing at a small free car park just outside Glenfinnan. Important Notes: - The B8035 road alongside Loch Na Keal is currently closed to the west of the Ben More car park ( at Gribun Rocks) due to a landslide, and will be closed for the foreseeable future as work is carried out. Therefore, on route to Iona I diverted off road via Glen Clachaig, and went over a 400m bealach. However, on my way back from Iona, a group of cyclicsts informed me they'd passed through the closure with no issues. I therefore did the same. I am not endorsing this, and if you decide to do so it is at your own risk. Alternatively you will need to alter my route and go back via the bealach again, or go round the main A884 road via Craignure. - The route over the Morvern Hills via Glen Cripesdale had many deer fences, which involved carrying the bike up ladders to get over. There was also one occasion, at the top of the pass, where there was no ladder and I had to climb the fence with the bike. To avoid this, you'd have to reroute, probably sticking to the A884 road instead of heading off-raod west along Loch Sunart as I did.

From the ferry terminal at Kennacraig, you'll take on a section of the Kintyre Way, above Tarbert.

There are spots suitable for wild camping, and you could detour to Tarbert if you need any supplies.

Starting from your camp at Machir Bay, heading back to Port Askaig.

It's worth visiting Finlaggan - a place of great importance in Scottish history. The lady in the visitor centre can give you the low down if you'd rather hear about it as a verbal story rather than reading plaques.

You'll head back to Brodick via the North West road.

The pizza place in Brodick is lush, and is the only way to finish this tour, before boarding the ferry back to Ardrossan.

From there, you've got a lovely mix of gravel and quiet road ahead, before joining a slightly busier road to Port Ellen.
