Dawn Raid

Been a while since I went out early. Cycled at dawn to avoid the heat all through summer 2025.

Tried a different quicker way through Newbold to get down to the Canal. Ended up going further than I planned.

Can't remember the last time I went cycling and it was dry on the ground. Thought I'd try the activity upload. Finished work an hour early, now time for pancakes 🥞

Once again based around adding flatground distance to The Chesterfield Tour - Canal Version. Heading south of Chesterfield is harder than heading north. Bit of steep climb in and out of the Avenue Washlands, I'd recommend building fitness up to 17miles by going north of Chesterfield, then when your at

Based around adding flat ground distance to The Chesterfield Tour - Canal Version. Basically alter the length of canal you undertake to increase your distance from 11 to 17 miles.

Your opening to longer adventures; particularly to the North along the canal / Trans Pennine Trail, but you can also head south to Storforth Lane / Avenue Washlands / Five Pits trail. My preferred version of the Chesterfield Tour especially in good weather.

For anyone taking up cycling around Chesterfield this is your route, and what a beginner should work up to completing. Get on to this route from your home and away you go!! WARNING: Don't do it in reverse, the hills in Dunston and Newbold are unforgiving. To do it in reverse, take Dunston Lane, Windermere

Starting to explore to the east of Chesterfield and using the cycleway through Brockwell. All downhill to Queens Park, but in reverse provides a steady climb back home to Linacre. A good route to know for future adventures, especially when your tired and just want to get home!

This was my first scale up in distance. I use to run The Inkerman as my longer ride out of three, with two at my shorter distance. I have a good memory of being on the Inkerman for the first time. This was at the break of dawn and seeing the mist coming over the Park.

This was my starter morning loop summer 2025. I aimed to complete it three times a week, with a rest day in between each ride. To avoid the summer heat I normally set off about 6am. As I progressed I started to add a lap of Holmebrook lake in first. This helps warm you up a bit before you hit the Loundsley Green Hill climb.
