🥾'Mad about walking'🥾

.... When not working, I'm usually walking!
Wherever I can, either solo walks or out and about with various Ramblers groups and anyone else who shares the love of exploring the great outdoors on foot.

I'm going to have to delete mine Duane, forgot to stop it in Market Rasen (what with the phone call etc) and drove all the way to Lincoln with it still on so I walked 25miles at 7mph ! 😬🫣😆

Another Caythorpe Shorty...... Plenty of surface water and mud. Deliberately went off road as I knew it would be hard work......and it was.

A very wet day....... Still a good turn out with the Sleaford group today, particularly considering the weather, rain and snow. https://slha.org.uk/catalogue_item/haverholme-priory-7 Haverholme Priory was a 12th-century Gilbertine monastery located on a formerly marshy island near Sleaford, Lincolnshire, founded in 1139. Following its dissolution in 1539, the site became a Tudor-style mansion for the Finch-Hatton family. The estate was largely demolished in the 1920s, with only ruins now remaining, according to Wikipedia. Key Historical Details Foundation: Originally offered to Cistercian monks in 1137, the site was rejected and instead established as a double house for the Gilbertine order in 1139. Significance: It was a significant religious site where Thomas Becket is believed to have taken refuge in 1164. The Mansion: A large mansion was rebuilt in the Tudor style in 1835 by H.E. Kendall for the 10th Earl of Winchilsea. Demolition and Remains: Following the family's departure in the early 1920s, the house was demolished around 1927. Today, a Grade II listed ruin, including a tower, remains on the site. Connection to "Out of Africa": The estate was the family home of Denys Finch Hatton, the noted big-game hunter and subject of the book and film Out of Africa.

A lovely walk - in good sunny weather!! 🤣🤣

What a glorious day to be out walking....... So happy to finally have no rain and more to the point, lots of sunshine! This hike I've wanted to do for a while. I've done segments of it before on various other walks but some of it was totally new to me. Kept up a good pace for the first 10miles averaging at 3.6mph this being largely down to good surface walking. Lots of road walking (on very quiet lanes). Some may argue is harder on the joints but it certainly gives me the chance to pick up speed a bit. I altered the stretch from Coleby back to Wellingore as I wanted to stick to the Viking way, though very muddy in parts after all the rain, the views are lovely. Sadly the heavy going over the last 3 miles or so brought my overall average speed down a notch but still decent at 3.5mph over 13+ miles. It's not a race, it's a comfortable pace for me and I need a slightly quicker pace over flat ground to keep my legs toned for the hills and scrambles I shall be doing in the future. Nice to see new houses being built with solar panels! Quite right too as should be the case with all new builds. A couple of lovely stone properties for sale at Boothby Graffoe if anyone is interested, the cheapest being 600K with Kinetic Estate agents......okay if you have it 😄 All in all a very enjoyable walk which I can highly recommend.

...And even got some sunshine ....... Between the showers, a very pleasant moderately paced walk taking in the Southern side of Caythorpe. Dramatic cloud formations and even the horses were wearing colourful raincoats. Good to be out in the nearby countryside and lots of fresh air. #MyKomootStory

It was not raining for a change. A decent walk though very muddy in parts. Nice to see some of the old Grantham crowd again .... particularly Gill, who I've not seen for absolutely ages and got to meet some newbies too. Thanks to Peter for helping out with the transport, wouldn't have been going otherwise and Andy for leading. Lovely day , some sun ....always a bonus😊 and great bants along the way.

Just a bit of drizzle but so much mud 😔 Everything is water logged. The water birds are loving it 😀 I put my new boots through there paces again. That's 3 short walks they have had now. A bit longer one tomorrow. They are comfy and very waterproof.....unlike my old ones which were well and truly past it.
