This hike was organized by the fire brigade of Alcobaça and I was hoping it would include the area of the river I've seen and adored so many times from the road when passing, but never found the time to explore.

Like the previous ones, this hike was organized together with two trail-running events and not of my own invention.
As always with these events, it was the locals who grew up in the area who set up and prepared the route.
I was very curious about the name for the event, so I asked them.

This trip wasn't my invention but a by-product of the "Limestone Ultra Trail" (LUT), offering family and friends of the trail-runners a bit of a proper activity which included the visit of the cave. In our case we entered at the exit going down 75 meters or so using the steps, and then all the way uphill

It was a "come on let's go" mission meaning we would arrive at the little lagoon to cross the river about 2 hours after high-water. On warm midsummer days it might be a good idea to do the ascent early (and don't forget drinking water!). As soon as you're at the summit there is a lovely breeze making it a really pleasant walk. It's only today that I found out the Rio Lis has several springs. While the majority of them dries out during summer, the one I visited today is the only one that doesn't, it's got water all year around.
