Je näher du der Natur kommst, desto weiter bist du von Idioten entfernt..
On Sunday we went again on a sporty three-country hike to the Wasserkuppe (highest mountain in Hesse). After a short stop at the Fulda spring, we still had great views in all directions on the summit, despite the low ☁️ ceiling and what felt like 🌪️ strength 8. On the way back we crossed the border to Bavaria again and after a bit of searching we found the geographical tri-border region hidden in the former Speer area. 🏞🧐 A successful end to the weekend - we'd love to come back to Rhön !! 👍🏞

On the occasion of the upcoming anniversary of the reunification, we went to the Rhön triangle with good friends. We were accommodated in the well-run Pension Dreiländereck (pension-dreilaendereck.de/startseite)
On the first day, pensioner and historian Jens Graf invited to a very interesting circular hike in the former restricted border area. The many anecdotes and excerpts from life in Birx and the surrounding area as well as the operational processes of the immediate border security let us experience GDR history up close again.
After completing the tour, we went to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön to the black moor. Here you can learn a lot of information about one of the most important high moors in Central Europe on a 3km circular route and of course enjoy the wonderful landscape and view towards Bavaria / Thuringia / Hesse

The 1st stage led to the Strickberg stamping point (2540m), after rolling in slightly over the Sexten Innichen - Toblach cycle path, it became, in the truest sense of the word, alpine. The long ascent over the serpentines of the old military road demands a lot of stamina. If the weather is right, you will be compensated with a grandiose view of all the mountain ranges in the area🤩. If you have the time, you should pay a visit to the Marchhütte (marchhuette.it/de/startseite) on the Marchkinkele to treat yourself to a delicious summit picnic (since 2020 mountain hikers and bikers have also been booking overnight stays here). We are a little modified from the original route on the high path no. 10 (very cool panoramic route). In the vicinity of the Thurnthaler See we crossed the border to Austria (some sections here closed for 🚵♂️. If you are a guest in another country, you stick to it and push ..) The descent was then via a almost 7km long serpentine towards Silian. After Sesto we went back on the well-signposted bike path. All in all, it was a demanding stage, but peppered with many natural highlights, which will surely inspire everyone 🚵♂️ or even hikers in some sections.
