Descent to Hornberg castle

The path up to the castle is quite narrow and slippery, quite an adventure to do in the dark. There's also a perfectly good asphalt road nearby, leading to the same spot without a risk of breaking your neck.

Part 03 - Into the desert

Very spectacular terrain, if you’re into rocks and shades of red. Water is scarce and the actual temperature in the sun will be a lot higher than the weather forecast so be prepared. There are a couple of tiny settlements in the middle of nowhere. They don’t seem to have any shops but there are people around so getting some water would be a possibility. Really good wild camping opportunities on most of the unpaved section, it’s quite a remote area.

Day 02 - big climb and a very dodgy descent

A lot of climbing but all quite pleasant and not too technical, the final stretch still shows as unpaved on most maps but if in fact a new, very smooth packed gravel road. The route leads partly through some salt works, that have been in use from the ancient times. Fascinating area. The final descent is deceiving - looks easy on paper but the road ends abruptly on top of the climb and turns into a very rocky trail that’s possibly partly rideable in daylight, but mostly hike a bike at night. I ended up there at night and this section took me a lot more time than I expected and missed resupply, had to wait till everything opened the next morning. Some good wild camping spots just a few kms before the end of the route.

Day 01 - Marrakech

Short day just to stretch out the legs. Mostly paved, then a small unnecessary detour to play a bit on a singletrack. Finish at a really lovely bed and breakfast where I had possibly the best Tagine and breakfast of the trip (only I didn’t know it yet!)
