Free parking possible for 3 hours at Heanor Tesco. Early sections of walk were quite muddy (in May !) - sturdy waterproof shoes or boots suggested. Some agility required for circa 6 stiles. Mapping error at Ormonde Fields GC. Greenkeepers put us right and pointed out correct route which is marked by

6.75 mile circuit. Predominantly solid surfaces - some steep paths close to the Burnt Sunlight monument - but these could be avoided. One set of steps exiting the canal.
Easy loop - and one to remember for the winter when many other routes would be difficult in wet/muddy conditions. Saw nobody at Pooley

6 mile circular from Alrewas cricket club (free parking) Most surfaces excellent but one extremely narrow crossing of the canal might make it difficult for anyone with restricted mobility

8.4 mile circular from Ye Olde Saracens Head in Balsall Common. Steady and interesting walk but extremely muddy in places after a wet spell so appropriate footwear advised. Well over shoe height on several occasions! Very little road work; the vast majority being footpaths, fields and towpath.

For anyone driving to start the walk, an alternate start point with easy free parking at DE21 7DN (Dale Road Park) What three words ref w3w.co/prop.pose.refuse
Access to Locko Park is restricted to 7am-1pm when the gates are locked so plan accordingly.

Boots would be a good idea if grass likely to be wet as the first half of the walk is across fields. Navigation is, however easy, just a few cows and sheep to negotiate and some stiles that need some physical dexterity.
