The Von der Heydt Tower is an observation tower 274 m above sea level in front of the Königshöhe on the Kiesberg, which rises south of the Wupper in the Wuppertal district of Elberfeld-West.

The tower was built in 1892 with donations (10,000 marks) from the Elberfeld banker August Freiherr von der Heydt and named after the donor. It was built in the German Renaissance style according to the design of the Elberfeld city building inspector Schaumann. It is 20 m high. Volunteer tower keepers now allow groups to visit the tower.

A bronze plaque commemorating the donor family was stolen during the Second World War. In 2013, a stele with an information board with the history of the building was erected.

On September 24, 1892, the Von der Heydt Tower was inaugurated on the Kiesberg. Representatives of the von der Heydt family, city councilors from the city of Elberfeld, members of the Elberfeld Beautification Association, numerous citizens and Mayor Jaeger, who took the tower into the care of the city, were present. The city of Elberfeld contributed 10,000 marks to the costs from a foundation by Karl von der Heydt and the Elberfeld Beautification Association contributed 5,000 marks.

The tower was designed by city building inspector Schaumann in “medieval castle style.” It has a two-flight external staircase, bay windows and an arbor supported on four corbels. Once you could look unhindered from the platform 20 meters up over Wuppertal to Hagen, but today the trees of the Burgholz have overtaken the tower in size.
