The Hackesche Höfe are Germany's largest commercial complex. As soon as you step through the main gate, the noise of the big city suddenly disappears. The architecture of the courtyards is impressive and the courtyards have a checkered history behind them. There are 8 courtyards and each looks slightly different. There are numerous shops and a few cafes and restaurants. A visit is definitely worth it! In 1747, the city commander, Hans Christoph Friedrich von Hacke, had the marshy area around Hackescher Markt drained. The farms are named after him. Source: hackesche-hoefe.de/de/history
