            Museum Island is a complex of five museums located in the northern part of the Spree Island in Berlin's historic center. It is one of the most important sights in the German capital and one of the most important museum complexes in Europe. Built between 1830 and 1930 on behalf of the Prussian kings according to plans by five architects, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999. Museum Island consists of the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Bode Museum, and the Pergamon Museum. Since German reunification, it has been renovated and expanded as part of the Museum Island Master Plan. On July 12, 2019, the James Simon Gallery opened as a new visitor center. Also located in the northern part of the Spree Island are the Berlin Cathedral at the Lustgarten, as well as the Humboldt Forum, a museum and cultural venue built in the style of the Berlin Palace until 2021.

                        I visited the Egyptian "New Museum," with the highlight being Nefertiti. Well-presented objects on four floors, free lockers, and audio guides. A cafe on the ground floor. Getting there by subway is recommended; public transportation is good. Parking is rather limited. It's busy on weekends, but better on weekdays.
