One day, the merchant Tikhomirov's youngest son Vladimir, who was a student at the Aleksandrovskaya Boys' Gymnasium at the time, was invited to a joint evening by students of the Mariinsky Girls' Gymnasium. First there was a concert, and then dancing. Vladimir noticed a charming girl with a wavy blond braid, dimples on her cheeks, and such blue eyes that they seemed bluer than her blue dress. The girl captivated Vladimir from the first minute of their acquaintance. Her name was Irina. Their gymnasium friendship grew into love. They were married in the Transfiguration Cathedral. The clergy served with reverence, the choir sang, and the parishioners prayed for the young couple to have a long and happy life.
