The 360 degree view is awesome. Attention should be the opening hours 9-17 clock, last admission 16:30 clock. Incidentally, the stairs are free of charge. 😉 The entrance is upstairs, to be paid in the Türmerstübchen.

The tower was built between 1490 and 1492. After several destructions, it was restored over and over again until a city fire destroyed the top of the tower in 1709, and it received what is now its baroque dome. After damage during the fighting for Bautzen in World War II, the tower threatened to topple. This could be prevented by security measures in the 1950s. Since then it has been called the “Leaning Tower” of Bautzen. It has a height of 56 m and an incline of 1.41 m. You have a great view from above.

During the expansion of the inner city fortifications in the 14th/15th century, the lower part of the tower was built between 1490 and 1492. After being destroyed by fires in 1620, 1639, 1686 and 1709, the tower was given a stone baroque top designed by Johann Christoph Naumann between 1715 and 1718. In 1747, the tower was first noticed leaning. In 1837, the Reichentor with its four Gothic archways and the wall roundel was demolished, although the inner arch on the tower remained as a round arch. The monument to King Rudolf II, created in 1593 and originally placed above the outer archway, was moved to the east side of the tower base. In 1968, the last archway was also demolished. From 1953 to 1954, the 3200 ton tower had its foundations reinforced because it was only 80 cm deep and the inclination of 1.41 m had to be stopped. From 1991 to 1993, a comprehensive restoration took place.

The Reichenturm, or Bohata wěža in Upper Sorbian, is a building of the former city fortifications of Bautzen. It is located on the eastern edge of the old town, at the end of Reichenstraße, and stands on the Kornmarkt, opposite the Church of Our Lady. It is open from April to October.
