The church is a former fortified church, built in 1513 using sections of 13th-century wall. The oldest frescoes date from 1512 and 1517.
In 1648, after the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War, the church was decorated with magnificent ceiling paintings. After the Second World War, the frescoes were uncovered, creating the church's current appearance.
