Nobody knows where the volcano erupted, bringing the white and greenish-gray quartz keratophyr into the Steinach Gorge. The special climate in the gorge, which is due to the rock, the natural river and the floodplain forests, makes it a suitable home for endangered fish and bird species. Absolutely worth seeing. One of the most beautiful areas in the Franconian Forest. According to legend, Thor created the valley with his hammer. Huge rock walls, between which the clean lower Steinach winds as a small mountain river.
