The Oberhafenkantine was built in 1925 as a so-called coffee hatch. Coffee hatches were used to feed the dock and shipyard workers. As it is located directly on the dock, it was washed away by storm surges and has become slanted over time.
It was listed as a historical monument in 2000, and in 2005 the cultural monument was renovated and leased to the star chef Tim Mälzer. In 2007 and 2014 hurricanes caused severe damage to the building. The tenants then changed several times.
For me, the small Oberhafenkantine is an absolute delight in the Hamburg harbor.
The menu offers good, down-to-earth Hamburg food. How about Labskaus and a blushing virgin for dessert?

I come regularly past the house and always find it interesting, as it is diagonally, directly between the Oberhafen Bridge (on top of the trains and drive down the cars) and the Elbe.
