As part of the Prague Castle complex, the largest enclosed castle complex in the world, the castle courtyard provides a stunning backdrop for some of the Czech capital's most important events and ceremonies.

It is said that dramatic moments took place in the castle courtyard in the past, such as the so-called "Second Prague Defenestration" in 1618. This event, when two imperial governors and their scribe were thrown out of a window of the Buda Castle, is considered to be Cause of the Thirty Years' War.

The Castle courtyard is part of the Prague Castle complex and can be visited with the Prague Castle admission ticket. The nearest metro and tram stop is "Malostranská" (line A). From there you can either walk up to the castle or use the number 22 tram, which will take you directly to the castle entrance.
