    Daci Monastery is a Sichuan Provincial Protected Historical Site. It locates at No.23 Dacisi Rd. in Chengdu, is a famous Chinese temple with a long history, a large scale and rich cultural heritages, has been reputed for centuries as “First Temple in China”. Emperor Tang Xuanzong gave it the name of “Da Sheng Ci Temple Built by Imperial Order” to it, therefor it´s called Daci Monastery. Daci Monastery was firstly constructed in Sui Dynasty, it became the most grand and splendid Buddhism temple after the expansion in Tang Dynasty, containing ninety-nine yards and occuping eight thousand and five hundred districts; It reaches the current Jinjiang Street and Jiangnanguan Street to its west, Tianyashibei Street and Sisheng Temple to its north, the city wall to its east, and Dongda Street to its south, being splendid with a wide area of more than thousands of acres. Monk Xuanzang of Tang Dynasty took his oath here; “The prince of Xinluo”, Monk Wuxiangfashi set the “new regulations” for the temple. The parietal bone of Tang Xuanzang had been shrined in Daci Monastery, later was transferred to Wenshu Temple. Daci Monastery was a place of culture in Chengdu in the Tang and Song Dynasties, there was a big market before the temple, and it was also a place of entertainment; It has been reputed as “the best collection of wall paintings”, as recorded in “Paintings of Daci Monastery”: “Chengdu has the most paintings of Tang Dynasty in China, and Daci Monastery has the most in Chengdu.” Su Dongpo appreciated the wall paintings of Daci Monastery as “the best in the world”. The temple was destroyed twice in fire in the Song and Ming Dynasties, it was totally ruined at early Qing Dynasty. After the later rebuilding, it became smaller in scale and the current existing buildings used to be the main gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the Guanyin Hall, the Grand Hall and the Buddhism scrips library were all
