Wen Weng Shishi is the first School established by local government in the Chinese history. It was established by Wen Weng, Governor of Shu Prefecture. The name “Shishi”(stone-made chamber) is derived from its masonry structure. The school keeps in operation since its establishment in the Han Dynasty and makes it self the school possessing longest continuous running time in the world. It has witnessed the inheriting of Shu culture and is now a municipality protected historic site.
Wenweng Shishi is the first local government-run school in the history of our country. It was founded by Wenweng, the prefect of Shu County in the Western Han Dynasty. Because it was built with stone, it is called Shishi. The school has continued from the Han Dynasty to the present. It is the longest continuous school in the world. It is an important witness to the heritage of Shu culture. It is now a municipal cultural relics protection unit.
