On and around the copper pond you can go cycling or walking wonderfully. The route is heavily frequented by dog owners, as there are many shallow spots on the lake, where dogs can go swimming in the summer, and there is also a large dog play area. The copper pond, 900 m long, was created when the Mellingbek was dammed to form a mill pond in the 14th century. It remained intact even after the mills disappeared. The green zone surrounding it is now used for local recreation.

The Kupferteich is a beautifully situated pond in Poppenbüttel with lots of nature around it. The environment is very varied. There are forests, fields and the beautiful large pond. You can also go around the pond by bike. A clear recommendation from me.
The highlight is of course the large dog meadow. The area is very easy to reach by car - parking spaces are available.

The copper pond is the former mill pond of a long since demolished copper mill between Lemsahl-Mellingstedt and Poppenbüttel. For this purpose, the small rivers Mellingbek and Twelenbek, which come from the Wittmoor and meet in front of the copper pond, were dammed to around 900 m.

At the northern beginning of the copper pond and below the former mill dam at the lower end, remains of fish ponds can still be found.

A dam runs in the middle of the pond and additionally damms the northern part. There used to be a campsite with a small restaurant on the western bank. Today the area is set up as a dog run.

Today there is an extensive golf course to the west and east of the copper pond.
South of the Kupferteich, between Poppenbütteler Berg and Poppenbütteler Hauptstrasse, there is another street, Kupferhammer, which is partly designed as a footpath.
After leaving the Kupferteich, the Mellingbek flows into the Alster near Hohenbuchen.

Sorry, but here you are literally overwhelmed by hordes of dogs and their dog sitters. So inconsiderate!!! Totally unsuitable for children, leash requirement is ignored.
I'm a dog owner myself and I don't go for walks with my dog here.
