The well signposted Alster hiking trail stretches along the river from Kayhude in Schleswig-Holstein to Hamburg's Inner Alster. The small tributaries to the Alster in north-east Hamburg (so in the Wohldorfer Wald, in the Rodenbeker Quellental and in the Duvenstedter Brook) are small brooks, so-called Beke.
