At the place of the information board there is also a nice bench from which you can look at the cross-section of a particularly old and wide (fallen) pine tree.

"Due to its age and size, this pine population is unique in Germany.
This inventory of pines, oaks and beeches is also called MUSEUM INVENTORY because of its great age. The pines, like the oaks, are 260 years [status: 1997] years old and were already in this place at the time of "Old Fritz" [Frederick the Great: 1712 - 1786].
Under favorable conditions, pine trees can reach an age of around 600 years. In the Palatinate Forest, they are usually used when they are around 160 years old, as older trees often begin to rot from the inside out. There are therefore only a few older trees in the Palatinate Forest. Here, however, there are still 180 trees on an area of 5 ha [status: in 1997]. The strongest pines have a trunk capacity of 7 cubic meters and a height of 25 m."
