In former times a hunting lodge was built here, which was built for the better hunting practice of the hunters. The client was Palatine Casismir. In later times, the hunting lodge was used by the forest administration, but after 1826 it was demolished. There has always been a small settlement here, as a reminder of the settlement area is this Ritterstein No. 120, which is maintained by the Palatinate Forest Association. Today stands here the Nibelungenhaus.

This is one of over 300 knight's stones of the Palatinate Forest Association. He points out the following:
“The Breitscheit hunting lodge was built by Count Palatine Johann Casimir (1543 - 1592) [= “Hunter from Electoral Palatinate”] for his hunting pleasure and for hunters. It was intended to be used for better hunting and as accommodation. The hunting lodge was later converted into a forester's lodge. [...]
The name Breitscheit is derived from the meaning 'wide sheath'. ‘There was a wide strip of arable land that existed on this plateau and separated it from the Frankenweide’ (Zeitz 2005, p. 207).
The hunting lodge was probably abandoned between 1827 and 1831. After the last forester in Breitscheid moved to the Wolfsgrube forester's lodge, the property was demolished (Zeitz 2005, p. 207)."
