            The 22.4 km² Selenter See is the second largest lake in Schleswig-Holstein. It is 34 m deep on average and is 37 m above sea level. The lake is drained north over the only 10 km long Mühlenau into the Baltic Sea.
            The emergence of Lake Selent dates back to the Vistula ice age, which formed a basin and at the same time formed end moraine walls up to 90 m high in the south. From the geological point of view, the still water is a so-called tongue basin lake.
            The lake is also known for its abundance of fish. There are eels, perch, pike, whitefish and roach in the lake.
