The Panker estate, which is over 500 years old, is located directly on the Baltic Sea coast, between Lütjenburg and Schönberg in Holstein Switzerland. Hohwacht, Plön, Malente and Eutin are also not far away.

Gut Panker is a picturesque little place. With its baroque manor house, chapel, a mighty gatehouse, old farm and residential buildings, stables, horses and endless green pastures. A narrow street leads between the rows of houses. You can still trace the estate's 500-year-old history here today.

But as idyllic as it seems, Gut Panker is not a museum village, but an active village or estate community. 80 people live here, a large proportion even work in the village. There have been shops and galleries since 2001.

Gut Panker is famous for its Trakehner breeding. Around 30 horses frolic in the pastures around the manor house in summer. The Trakehner breeding was founded in Panker directly after the war with a few horses from Trakehnen in East Prussia. Refugees brought them here across the frozen Baltic Sea. And so, for 6 decades, Gut Panker has provided a worthy setting for the caring, conscientious breeding of valuable, noble Trakehners.

Incidentally, the Gut Panker mansion is still privately inhabited by the von Hessen family, whose property includes Gut Panker.

It was not entirely clear where the bike path goes along, it is not clear whether you can bike to the estate (signs indicate a private path). The bike path goes through the gate and yes, you are allowed on the site - consideration is a matter of course anyway.

The manor chapel is located northwest within sight of the manor house. The single-nave building with a slender bell tower was built in 1890 and designed in the historicizing style of the Nordic Renaissance. Regular services are no longer held in the chapel, but it is rented out for weddings and similar events.

In the gatehouse there is the “Stilhaus” a gallery & textile studio, the “Emmas/hermann”.
Christine & Sebastian Schmidt are responsible for this.

The head chef is Volker M. Fuhrwerk. Also known from the SH magazine on NDR 3.
He & his team were awarded a Michelin star 🌟 in 2022.
