            The Munich National Theater was inaugurated in 1818 and is the main building of the Bavarian State Opera. King Maximilian I Joseph commissioned the construction, inspired by ancient Greek temples. The architect Karl von Fischer designed the building, but it had to be rebuilt after a fire in 1823.

            Another devastating fire in the Second World War destroyed it. It was rebuilt from 1958 to 1963, sticking closely to the original design. Today, the National Theater is one of the most important opera houses in the world and the venue for numerous premieres and international performances.
