The castle Lichtenberg was probably built in the 12th century, today are still impressive wall remains. After the destruction of the castle in the second Margrave War in 1554 1560 was a castle-like new building, which was burned again in 1634 in the 30-year war. After reconstruction, the castle burned down again in 1682 and was not rebuilt.

On the seven-meter-high foundation of the former keep, in 1936, a 25-meter-high observation tower was built, which unfortunately is not always open. Events are often held on the grounds, so it's probably worth taking a look at the Lichtenberg city website.

From the ruins you have a very good view to the north.
