Elias Holl built the butcher's shop in Augsburg at the beginning of the 17th century. A masterfully masonry canal vault through which the Vordere Lech flowed under the city butcher. The social welfare office has been using the premises of this beautiful monument with the representative Renaissance facade since 1939.

The Vordere Lech was carried out with the construction of the building in a canal under the Metzg and used to cool the meat and as a waste water stream. The canal vault under the Stadtmetzg is still preserved today: files of an office are stored there. The Vorderer Lech has long been flowing underground past the monument again.
