The cathedral cemetery was created in the 16th century for the Marian congregation of the cathedral freedom. As early as the end of the 16th century, high dignitaries of the cathedral chapter were buried here, who had previously had the right to be buried in the cathedral church. Canons, cathedral preachers and administrative staff of the cathedral were entitled to graves until the 20th century. Despite the new municipal cemetery opening in 1901, the cathedral cemetery remained important; prominent personalities such as cathedral deans continued to find their final resting place here.

An old, seemingly almost forgotten cemetery. There are still paths off the main path or at least they can be guessed at. Many tombstones are broken or overgrown. Nevertheless, the cemetery exudes a certain charm.
