The town of Schönburg and the Schönburg Castle itself offer not only interesting historical architecture and impressive red sandstone cliffs. It's also worth climbing the keep and enjoying the panoramic view of the town and the Saale Valley, with the towers of Naumburg Cathedral in the distance.

Schönburg Castle in Schönburg isn't just a worthwhile hiking destination. Anyone traveling along the Saale Cycle Path shouldn't shy away from the effort of cycling up to the castle hill. You'll be rewarded with cool drinks and delicious food from the castle tavern, along with a fantastic view of the Saale Valley. And if you're looking for a great location for your wedding, you can also hold your celebration there in a stylish setting.

Schönburg Castle is situated on a sandstone cliff about 40 meters above the Saale River. Particularly worth seeing is the 32-meter-high keep, with its beautiful fireplace in the tower chamber and the guard room at the top of the tower. The building next to the gate to the outer bailey is the former forester's lodge and was built in 1539/40 in the Renaissance style. There are ample parking spaces at the foot of Schönburg Castle, from which you can start your excursions to the castle and the surrounding area.

A boat dock, a campsite, and cycling and hiking trails around Schönburg invite you to relax. For weary hikers, there is a café and pastry shop. The castle tavern hosts knights' banquets, candlelight dinners, and much more. Within the medieval walls is the 12th-century "courthouse" of the Naumburg bishops. The registry office of our administrative community maintains an outpost here.
