The remains of the former Flora Theater on Schulterblatt in the Schanzenviertel district, occupied in 1989, hold strong symbolic significance within the autonomous scene as the "Rote Flora" (Red Flora). The center has repeatedly served as a starting point for regional and national social, cultural, and politically motivated activities of the radical left.
The Flora was originally built as a theater in 1888, expanded in 1890 to include a concert hall, and by 1920, films were being shown there to complement the variety show program. From 1953 onward, the Flora operated solely as a cinema, the "Flora-Filmpalast," with 1,003 seats.
