The founder Bernhard Olsen had bought some land in the Sorgenfri district in 1912 to enlarge his open-air museum. The large cap windmill was already there and is the only building at the original location. And now that he had space, he wanted to represent "all of Denmark" there - including the areas that Denmark had long since lost ... It doesn't matter - today you don't just see buildings from Denmark itself and the existing imperial community, e.g. the Faroe Islands, but also from former areas such as southern Schleswig (meaning Germany) and Skåne (meaning Sweden). The museum is child-friendly (take your change of clothes + towel - you can play with water ...) and if you are interested in history: there are actually an infinite number of photo opportunities. And you can be aware of how much our food safety has increased (we only die extremely rarely from food poisoning - and then not the whole household) and what development our standard of living, both prosperity, has made in the past 100 years.
