The Kemnat castle ruins are located in Kaufbeuren in the Ostallgäu. The former hilltop castle was built in the 12th century. The high medieval keep has been preserved. In the 1980s there was an extensive renovation and the installation of a covered viewing platform from which you have a wonderful view. Access is free. On boards you will learn a lot about the history of the castle.
Already knew? The everyday name "Römerturm" has no historical meaning. The Kemnat castle ruins show parallels to the Helmishofen castle ruins, which are also located in the Ostallgäu.

At the Römerturm there is a cozy inn in the former castle office building with outdoor seating, where you can enjoy delicious dishes. One recommendation is the apple pie. On the tower itself there is a modern viewing platform with a wonderful panorama from the Wetterstein Mountains to the Tannheim and Lechtal Mountains and up to the Allgäu High Alps. The viewing platform is freely accessible during the day.
