If necessary, the water from the Innerste reservoir can be diverted to the neighboring Granetalsperre via an underground water tunnel. In this case, the water has to be pumped uphill about 90 meters, as the Granetalsperre is correspondingly higher.
Although the inner reservoir is used to produce drinking water, the water can also be used for sporting activities. You can swim, sail, fish, windsurf or take a rowboat on and around the lake. On the east bank there is also a campsite not far from the road.
An approximately seven kilometer long circular hiking / cycling path leads around the reservoir of the Innerste dam.

There are many benches around the reservoir. Unfortunately, there is a lack of rubbish bins, so that some smokers carelessly stub out their cigarette butts on the floor and leave them there. Not a "nice move" - it takes 10 to 15 years for them to rot.
