The Innerstetalsperre can be reached by turning off the B 82 towards the Harz Mountains in Langelsheim. About 2 km from the end of the town, you reach the dam walls of the dam, which was built between 1964 and 1966. The earth dam with its asphalt concrete sealing is the longest in the Harz Mountains at 750 m. In contrast, the dam with its 32 m height is one of the dams with the lowest height and its content of 20 million cbm is also relatively small.

The dam of the Innerstetalsperre is an earthen dam with a multi-layer asphalt concrete seal on the outside. It has an inspection passage in the water-side hearth wall over the entire length. In front of the water-side foot of the dam there is a flood overflow tower, in which the bottom outlet is also integrated. The water from the Innerstetalsperre can be pumped via a 4.6 km long pressure line to the eastern Granetalsperre, where it can be used for drinking water treatment. From 2003 to 2005, the dam was completely emptied and the asphalt seal and the bottom outlet in particular renovated. The construction work was completed in September 2005.
