            The water of the Innerstetalsperre is cold and soft and poor in nutrients. Leading fish are salmonids such as brown trout and lake trout. There are also pike, perch, carp and tench, as well as various species of white fish. After the renovation work in 2003, the fish stock was completely rebuilt by stocking measures.

                  Wolfshagen im Harz was first mentioned in 1316 as Wulveshagen; the ending -hagen identifies the settlement as a site of the medieval clearing period. Northwest of the town are the remains of an apparently unfinished castle complex of considerable proportions, Burghagen Castle.
                  In 1958 about 2800 people lived in Wolfshagen, today there are still about 2300.
                  The town was incorporated into the town of Langelsheim on July 1, 1972 as part of the Lower Saxony regional reform.
