The house on the border conveys a picture of how the population lived with the threat and oppression. 20 contemporary witnesses from the region report on their history of division and life in the restricted area. The exhibitions present the world-historical and military connections in a scientifically based and clear manner. An exhibition on the “Green Belt” and the Rhön Biosphere Reserve is shown on the upper floor. She pays particular attention to the region's animal and plant species and explains the unique nature conservation project along the former border strip.

The permanent exhibition on the ground floor takes you on a journey through time:

For four decades, Geisa was the westernmost point of the Warsaw Pact. People were forcibly relocated here and their houses were demolished to create a death strip. Animated war plans for the area around Geisa and Rasdorf underline the threat during the Cold War in the "Fulda Gap". The exhibition initially places the place in this historical context.

The blue house, as it is also called, is very informative. The original column path of the border leads through the middle of the house. Many display boards and pictures remind us of the time of the Cold War, forced relocations, border construction and border violations.

In front of the house there is a piece of the original Berlin Wall and a round table with 15 stools. Symbolic for all federal states at the round table with the inscription “Law and freedom for all”.
