The old gunpowder factory in Düneberg has existed since the late 19th century. Initially, it produced gunpowder, later also explosives for war. After 1945, the site was severely damaged. Because chemicals were used there for a long time, problems with the soil and groundwater persist to this day. In the late 1980s, more detailed investigations began. Some areas have been considered contaminated since then and require continued monitoring.

Great cycling route along the dike, there is so much to see and you can really switch off. Wonderful

The nice thing about this memorial is that it does not contain any grand texts about the fatherland or exaggerated concepts of honor. It is simply about remembering the people.

Next to the memorial in Kröppelshagen there is an idyllic rest area with benches and tables next to a small pond that invites you to take a break. The memorial is a well-kept complex on the outskirts of the town, located in “Hohenhorner Weg”. At the southernmost point of the Hamburg Elbe is the “smallest restaurant in the world”: the old Zollenspieker Pegelhäuschen. The water gauge house, built around 1880 and demolished in 1992, was able to be rebuilt true to the original thanks to donations. Ideal for a run along the Elbe, there is a path around the Zollenspieker Fährhaus that I regularly use when jogging.
