NABU Nature Reserve "Former Gravel Pit East of Basedow" - Nature Shaped by Human Hands This approximately 57-hectare nature reserve in the district of Herzogtum Lauenburg was designated a protected area in 1991. The area serves to protect and permanently safeguard a small-scale habitat for a particularly protected, regionally typical flora and fauna within a former soil extraction site. It features several well-structured lakebeds, valuable secondary habitats supporting semi-ruderal pioneer and wild herbaceous vegetation, sessile shrubs, bare soil areas, and steep banks. To ensure the long-term preservation of the core zone, the adjacent areas are included in the nature reserve as a buffer and development zone.
