a great building - it looks like the town hall is located right in the castle.

Unfortunately, there is no cycle path along the canal here yet. The path to the left before the bridge is a dead end.

This route was suggested in Komoot as a cycle path along the canal - but it is a dead end after the next lock.

7월 16, 2025, Kunst im Garten
There are several more "works of art" in the garden. As I was photographing it, the owner (a very nice man) came over and we had a good chat. He actually built the house (not photographed) himself.

10월 1, 2023, Porte de Laon (Coucy-le-chateau-Auffrique)
This medieval gate, built in the 13th century, was part of the impressive fortifications of Coucy-le-Château, a town once famous for its castle and its motto: "I am neither king, nor prince, nor count, I am the lord of Coucy ". The Porte de Laon is a massive structure with two round towers and an arched passage, defended by a drawbridge, a double portcullis and a barbican. You can admire the architecture and military devices of this ancient bastion, as well as the panoramic view of the city and the surrounding countryside.

8월 28, 2023, Eglise Saint-Rémi de Wissignicourt
Until the revolution of 1790, Wissignicourt had its church placed under the invocation of Saint-Rémi and a cemetery which surrounded it. Everything was at the end of Bourg d'Anizy on the road to Laon. Under the reign of terror, the revolutionaries declared it national property. It was sold and demolished. In the center of the village there was a small relief chapel, twelve meters long and six meters wide, which was used for the special needs of the week. It was preserved and became the parish church of Wissignicourt in 1802. (https://www.fondation-patrimoine.org)

8월 3, 2023, Cathédrale Notre-Dame
Here, the city walker will find an early masterpiece of Gothic architecture, a style often found in this part of France – Chartres and Reims, for example, attract enthusiastic international visitors and are far more famous than Laon. In the following 13th century, many Gothic churches were built, not only in their country of origin, France, but also beyond the country's borders, where this sky-high, light-filled architectural style was now in great demand for new churches (for example, the laying of the foundation stone for Cologne Cathedral in 1248).

9월 27, 2022, Cathédrale Notre-Dame
The cathedral stands in the old town of Laon on Table Mountain and can be seen from afar. The detailed front and the balanced proportions make the building worth seeing from the outside. But you should definitely take your time and look inside one of the earliest Gothic masterpieces. The feeling of space in the light-flooded church is amazing. There are many side chapels, beautiful stained glass windows, remains of the interior painting and much more to admire. We were thrilled!

9월 1, 2020, Lavoir à Prémontré (Rue du lavoir)
A wash house is a basin supplied with water generally of natural origin, the primary purpose of which is to allow laundry to be rinsed after washing it. It is most often public, free or paid depending on the municipality, but can be private, attached to a single house or a single farm and can be made available to neighbors for a fee. Contrary to a very widespread representation, the washerwomen did not go there most often to wash the linen, but to rinse it there. Going to the washhouse was indeed the last step before drying. Since washing consumed only a few buckets of water, it could take place in homes or laundry rooms where laundry would accumulate before the "big wash", but rinsing required large amounts of clean water, only available in streams or in a captured source. However, there are washhouses with several basins, the upstream basin serving as a rinser, those downstream as a washhouse (washing the laundry itself) or even a drinking trough. (Wikipedia)
