The 75-year-old owner Bernd Engelmann will be happy to spoil you with snacks, beer and coffee in his romantic guest garden at Vorinfo (03585/860116). He also had the Öff-Öff camp on his land like Blücher's soldiers in 1813. Directly here, at the ford of today's Löbauer water, there was a Slavic castle wall in the early Middle Ages. After King Henry I wanted to subjugate the Milzen people at the beginning of the 10th century, he had a road built into their area. It led close to this castle and continued through the ford towards Sohland am Rotstein to Seidenberg. A mural is reminiscent of this “Strada Antiqua Lusatiae”, which today runs in remnants through the middle of the mill site. Be sure to let us show you the private museum while you take a break. The events of September 4th and 5th, 1813 are said to be the starting point. On September 4th, the Prussian Marshal Blücher withdrew to the east ahead of the French troops stationed in the Hochkirch area and commanded personally by Napoleon. At the location of the brick mill, he crossed the Löbauer water via 3 field bridges (see picture above) and built a bivouac on the meadow behind it. When the timetable changed on May 27, 1972, passenger traffic between Löbau and Baruth was stopped. When the timetable changed in autumn, the remaining route also lost its passenger traffic. From then on there was only freight traffic between Baruth and Radibor. In the spring of 1973 the Löbau – Baruth line was dismantled. However, in 1978 a new track was laid between Löbau and Kittlitz, which was used for tank loading at the NVA Löbau site. When the Margarethenhütte stopped production at the end of 1993, the remaining route also came to an end. At the end of 1994, freight traffic between Baruth and Guttau officially ended. In 1997 the Guttau freight station was also closed. The line was closed on September 1, 1996 (Baruth–Guttau) and August 15, 1998 (Guttau–Radibor). In 2004 the remaining tracks were dismantled.
