You can see the consequences of the flood in 2021 here: The tame Vischelbach has gone wild and has bitten large pieces out of the meadows; maybe a kingfisher will move into the newly created embankment? Elsewhere, the stream washed up so much material that it had to find a new bed. There you can now admire a small delta and shallow lakes. The stream has given the high seat an island location - only for hunters with a head for heights ;-). And because we humans want everything to be neat and tidy, the stream is now being cleaned up. Nature doesn't care about order - it simply greens up everything that was left behind by the flood and voila: beautiful!

The Geissenbach stream flows here through a concrete pipe dating from the 1930s. A dam was originally planned to be built over it to ensure a sufficient water supply for diverting water to the Steinbach reservoir, even in summer. This water was needed by the Euskirchen textile industry. https://t1p.de/sq0kw Today, the concrete acts as a barrier against the spread of ecologically enriching organisms in the watercourse.
