The Swedish Cross on the Nürburgring Nordschleife commemorates an event during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) in which Swedish soldiers robbed and murdered tax collector Hans Friedrich Datenberg from Adenau at this spot in 1638. The current cross, which replaced an older memorial stone, stands as a reminder of this violent death. The present stone cross, reinforced after being damaged in 1895, is a prominent landmark on the Nordschleife. The "Swedish Cross" section of the racetrack is particularly dangerous. This section also lends its name to the annual RCN race "Swedish Cross."

The Kamalahila Institute is not a monastery in the traditional sense, but rather a center for Buddhist studies and meditation. Since 1999, it has served as the European residence of His Holiness (spiritual leader of the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism) and offers a variety of seminars and courses on topics such as Buddhism, meditation, mindfulness, and stress management. Although the institute is housed in a former Christian monastery, it now functions as an educational and meeting center. The parish church of St. Valerius was built in the 13th century as a Romanesque church and expanded in the Gothic architectural style. It has a beautiful altar and ceiling paintings in the canopy.
