2001년, 150년 이상 운영된 석탄 광산인 제체 에발트(Zeche Ewald)가 폐쇄되었습니다. 오늘날 이곳은 레저, 문화, 올드타이머 문화(모터월드), 이벤트 장소입니다. 두 개의 옛 채굴 타워는 산업 과거를 증언합니다. 호헤바르트(Hoheward) 폐석 더미에서는 두 채굴 타워의 사진 찍기 좋은 풍경을 볼 수 있습니다.

The moated castle was built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Following renovations by the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association (LWL) from 1974 to 1989, it is the exclusive property of the LWL Clinic Herten and belongs to the LWL. The castle park is freely accessible, but the café is permanently closed (as of March 2026). However, rooms are available for rent; see https://www.schloss-gastro.de/location/.

The ponds at Herten Castle are part of a sprawling, listed English landscape park and a highlight of the moated castle, known for their abundance of water after renovations and their diverse birdlife. Surrounded by meadows and woods, they provide habitat for numerous animals (such as swans and herons) and are equipped with boardwalks and benches for relaxation. Visitors can explore the surroundings on walking and cycling paths that wind through the park and the castle forest.

There are several mining sculptures to be found in the park. Some are deliberately hidden, while others are already completely overgrown with grass.

A detour to Westerholt Castle is definitely worthwhile – the historic moated castle with its well-kept castle grounds is located directly next to the picturesque village of Westerholt, which, with its well-preserved half-timbered houses, is one of the most beautiful village centers in the Ruhr region. A stop in the beer garden of the Haus Alt Westerholt restaurant, located directly opposite the castle, is particularly recommended. Here, you can enjoy a cool drink or a meal while taking in the view of the historic backdrop. Ideal for a relaxing break in a stylish atmosphere.
