The ponds at Herten Castle are part of a sprawling, listed English landscape park and a highlight of the moated castle, known for their abundance of water after renovations and their diverse birdlife. The moated castle was built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Following renovations by the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association (LWL) from 1974 to 1989, it is the exclusive property of the LWL Clinic Herten and belongs to the LWL.
The castle park is freely accessible, but the café is permanently closed (as of March 2026). However, rooms are available for rent; see schloss-gastro.de/location.
