Beautiful lake, good for a short break

This traditional half-timbered house with a thatched roof stands on the Kranichgraben near Lake Jabel in the Mecklenburg Lake District, typical of the region's historic architecture. Such farmhouses often date back to the 19th century or earlier and were built using half-timbering techniques, with the thatched roof—made of dried reeds—as a distinctive feature. These roofs are steeply pitched and constructed with a wide overhang to protect against rain. Thatched roofing is considered a centuries-old, sophisticated architectural art and was added to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's intangible cultural heritage in 2014. The house on the Kranichgraben blends harmoniously into the natural and cultural landscape and is a vivid example of the region's rural architectural tradition.

In 2023 and 2024 I interrupted my long bike rides here several times for a few swims. Very clear, beautiful water. You can no longer stand at the end of the jetty. Clean water and the bottom is firm and sandy, small climbing plants and no water lilies. One of the most beautiful lakes in the area, I think.
