Britsum is a village in the municipality of Leeuwarden, in the Dutch province of Friesland. Britsum is located north of the city of Leeuwarden, directly southeast of Stiens on the Stienservaart. In 2023 the village had 955 inhabitants. Britsum works together with the villages of Cornjum and Jelsum on many fronts.

Stinzen and states are the predecessors of today's castles and estates in the Netherlands. They were a symbol of wealth in the former Friesland. The Dekema State was originally such a stins, a medieval tower that could be defended and inhabited. Over the centuries, the Dekema State has grown into the still stately estate that lies before you. Not only the house, but also the garden is worth a visit.
