There is a Dutch Reformed church in Maurik, the St. Martin's Church, which contains 15th-century wall paintings and a 1-manual organ by Petrus van Oeckelen from 1867. There is also the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Assumption. The Catholic community is much smaller than the Reformed one. Recordings were made in Maurik for the episode 'The accelerator' of the TV series Tita Tovenaar. Maurik's St. Martin's Church can be seen in the background of the episode. Nothing is known with certainty about the origin of the name Maurik. A.J. van der Aa wrote in 1846[2] that Mannaricium, mentioned in the travel book of Emperor Antonius, would be the current Maurik. However, he does not mention his source. In his occasional work from 1967[3], A.P. de Kleuver goes one step further and assumes a Celtic origin. Now (very) old habitation has been proven: in 1967 some minor remains were found that indicate habitation in the Bronze Age (1700-700 BC). Source and more information: Wikipedia
