The Pluizenmeer is a characteristic fen (small lake) nestled in the Renderklippen: a heathland and woodland formed by ice-age moraines. Originally called "Vlasmeertje" (Little Flax Lake), it was quickly nicknamed "Pluizenmeertje" (Little Fluffy Peat Grass) because it is fringed with fluffy bog grass (cotton cotton).

This is an estate on the flank of the Veluwe. The area consists largely of forest, and you will also find heathland here. It is fantastic for walking.

Today you have a beautiful view over the heath from here, but in the Middle Ages this was a considerably less pleasant place. Then this was the gallows hill: a field with one or more gallows. The intention with the corpses was to deter other people from committing a crime.
