is the Frisian section of a shipping canal in the Netherlands from Lemmer to Groningen. Construction of the canal began in the 1930s. The part of the canal that runs through the province of Groningen is called Van Starkenborghkanaal from Stroobos onwards. This canal was completed in 1938 and officially inaugurated by Queen Wilhelmina.

Hopefully your sense of balance is OK, because you'll need it on the barefoot path. Grass tickles the soles of your feet and mud oozes out between your toes. If it's rained, there's even more mud. There are obstacles at various points along the route to make the adventure even more exciting.

The Oude Riet nature reserve is located between Boerakker and Noordwijk. Between 1811 and 1990 this was the border between Oldehove and Zuidhorn. Today it is a nature reserve where many birds live. Many geese can be found in the meadows and a large heron is occasionally spotted. There is a lookout tower on the Roordaweg.
